Three Most Common Mistakes with Facebook Competitions

There are lots of different competitions you can run in Facebook to drive fans to your page.

Unfortunately a lot of people set up a competition against the Terms of Service.  I can hear you saying .. Hey Donna – I am not sure what they are – I didn’t even know there were Rules!  In case you haven’t read them, check them out here = http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php

One of the three of the most common mistakes I see with competitions is people asking their fans to comment on a page to enter the competition.  Better still asking them to click like as a way of “entering”.

Rule 1 – Promotions on Facebook must be administered within Apps on Facebook.com, either on a Canvas Page or an app on a Page Tab ie… you must set up an app to run your competition – not use the wall.

Rule 3 – You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotion’s registration or entry mechanism. For example, the act of liking a Page or checking in to a Place cannot automatically register or enter a promotion participant – that means .. no asking them to comment or like a post to enter.

Rule 6 You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages.  If they did comment or like – how can you notify them that they are winners !!

There are a total of 8 Rules – some a little confusing … if you stay within the guidelines issued by Facebook you will have no problems with your Competition.

Most asked Question  About Competitions:  Do they really shut down Pages for holding competitions against TOS – Yes …. Don’t let it happen to you.
