Convert your Facebook Profile to a Business Page in 5 Easy Steps

The more time I spend on Facebook, I am amazed at how many local businesses use their personal profile to promote their business. The fact is .. that using your Personal Profile for Business is AGAINST Facebook Terms of Service.

Most set up “what they thought” was their Business Page, only to find out after they have been using Facebook for sometime, that its a Personal Profile. The sad thing is, these people run the risk of having their Profile shut down and loosing the connection with all those Friends / potential Customers. Not to mention all the connections they have created and relationships they have built up.

Facebook realise that people don’t always set out intentionally to do this, so they are more than happy to help you convert over your Personal Profile to your Business by following some simple steps.

Lets get started converting your Facebook Profile to Page

IMPORTANT: The very first thing you need to do is back up your Personal Profile.

Step 1CLICK on drop down arrow next to Home on the blue menu bar (by your name), and click on “Account Settings”.

Step 2:  Down the bottom of the window you will see “Download a Copy” of your Facebook Data – CLICK this link.

Step 3:  On the Download Your Information – click on START MY ARCHIVE.
You will then receive an email (the one that is your primary for FB) telling you your download is complete.

Its important to make sure you have downloaded everything, repeat this process if you haven’t saved it all.  Once converted you will never get this information back!

Step 4:  Next visit  “How do I convert my personal account to a Facebook Page? ” and CLICK the link to learn more.

Step 5:  You will now be at “Profile To Business Page Migration” window, Select which type of Page you would like to merge too.  ie if you are a local business choose local business or place.  If you are unsure click on the Learn More Link provided.

At this time only your profile photo and friends will be moved to your new Page.  No other content will be moved.  You will still be able to log in from your original email address and password.

After the migration has been completed you will no longer see the Personal Profile you merged.  To view the Page you do this with what is known as a Business Account, following the same process you did with the personal profile.
