Announcing a Winner for your Facebook Contest.

Your contest is over and it’s now time to announce the Winner.

Do you go to your Page and shout it out to everyone or do you announce it privately?

Announcing Winners on Facebook

THE ANSWER is ……..

The sad fact is, its against FB TOS to announce the Winner of your Contest on your Page.  Take a look at Facebook’s Promotional Guidelines.   No 6 States ….

You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages.

If people entered your contest correctly by using a third party app, you would already have their details and would send them a message congratulating them.  Pages, who announce it on their Wall, are more than likely to be the ones who do it against FB TOS and run the risk of having their Page shut down.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I think we should all be allowed to shout it from the roof tops, our Winners!    But be strategic about how you do it:

(1) Write to the Person;

(2) Give them time to answer;

(3)  Write a brief post saying Congratulations “Donna ” for winning we have contacted you and look forward to delivering XX;   Tip: Do not include their last name.

(4) Ask them to head on over to your Wall and share their good news and ….

(5) Ask them to please take a picture of themselves with your prize to share on your FB Page and Website to spread the love.

Please feel free to share with us – how you tell your Winners they have won their Prize from your Contests by posting it on our Wall in Facebook.
